U.S. Congressman
    (March 29, 1969- )
    Born in Taipei, Taiwan
    Represents California's 33rd district (assumed office January 3, 2015)
Represented California's 28th district in the State Senate (2011-14)
    Democrat
    He talks in partisan soundbites.
He tends to yield his floor time arguments to audio recordings (kinda lazy).
This line of questioning led to a tense exchange between himself and Candace Owens when he played an out-of-context clip of her discussing Adolf Hitler during a Judiciary hearing on white nationalism (April 2019).
Owens responded to the clip by saying: 'I think it's pretty apparent that Mr. Lieu believes that black people are stupid and will not pursue the full clip' (when admonished by Jerry Nadler she called it 'unbelievably dishonest').
He defended his penchant for name-calling during a CNN interview, saying: 'When they go low, we fight back.'
His family immigrated to Cleveland from Taiwan when he was only three.
He served in the Air Force Reserve Command, reaching the rank of colonel.
He was a California State Assemblyman for five years.
He underwent heart surgery following reports of chest pains.
He played an audio clip of migrant children crying and calling for their parents on the floor of the House to protest the Trump administration's child separation policy (June 22, 2018).
He defended his outspokenness on Twitter by saying: 'I just decided that if Donald Trump was going to say 27 crazy, misleading things a week, I am going to point out that he said 27 crazy, misleading things, and to not allow him to get away with it.'
