    Directed 'Guys and Dolls,' 'Of Mice and Men' and 'The Senator Was Indiscreet'

Why he might be annoying:

    He only wrote effectively with collaborators.
    He had a highly publicized and scandalous affair with actress Mary Astor.
    Astor documented the affair in her diary, parts of which were published in newspapers.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He won two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama.
    He was one of the most quoted members of the Algonquin Round Table.
    He remained drama editor at the New York Times even after he became a millionaire as a playwright.
    One of his lines in 'A Night at the Opera' was so funny that it had to be removed so preview audiences could hear the rest of the movie.
    He once sent a telegram to an actor in one of his plays 'Am watching your performance from the back of the theater. Wish you were here.'
