Why he might be annoying:

He lived in his brother's shadow.
When Louis left the company he founded in 1915 to form the Frontenac Motor Corporation, he stayed with Chevrolet for another year, then had a change of heart and re-teamed with his brother in 1916.
He entered the 1919 Indy 500, but finished a disappointing 10th place (his brother Louis finished 7th).
The race that killed him also killed fellow driver Eddie O'Donnell and O'Donnell's mechanic, and seriously injured his mechanic.
He became the first Indy car driver to win the Indy 500 and be killed the same year as his victory.

Why he might not be annoying:

He emigrated to the U.S. in 1901.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War I.
He won the 1920 Indy 500 with the second best time in the history of the event (average speed was 88.16 mph).
He was the first Indy 500 winner to go the entire trace without a tire change.
Though he was killed in his final race, he had accumulated enough points during the race and throughout the season to win the 1920 title of 'Speed King of the Year' (the AAA National Champion).
