Since she could not be an official royal mistress without a title, her pimp married her off to his titled brother, Comte Guillaume du Barry.
When the King was dying, she was sent off to a convent so he could receive absolution from a priest.
After two years, she left the convent and resumed her career as courtesan to the wealthy.

Even when she was a shop assistant, her beauty made her a favorite model of artists.
She was snubbed by Marie Antoinette because of her working class origins.
She tried to save herself by agreeing to reveal where she had hidden the jewels the King had given her.
When she finished describing their whereabouts, she was carted off to the guillotine.
