The Resume

    (January 26, 1979-February 8, 1985)
    Originally aired on CBS
Premise: Adventures of a Southern 'good ol' boys' family and their dealings with a corrupt politician
Set in fictional Hazzard County, Georgia
    John Schneider as Bo Duke
    Tom Wopat as Luke Duke
    Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke
Denver Pyle as Uncle Jesse Duke
    Sorrell Booke as Boss Hogg
James Best as Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane
    Ben Jones as Cooter Davenport
Byron Cherry as Coy Duke (1982-1983)
Christopher Mayer as Vance Duke (1982-1983)
Waylon Jennings as the Balladeer/Narrator (also sings the theme song)

Why Dukes of Hazzard might be annoying:

    'Yeeeee-hawwww!'
It stereotyped people who lived in the South, complete with the Confederate flags and the 'Dixie' horn.
It never explain why there were so many cousins, all with the last name of 'Duke.'
It also didn't explain why Uncle Jesse had the responsibility of overseeing two nephews and one niece (are there parents in the South?).
Many Dodge Chargers that functioned as 'General Lees' were destroyed during the show, even though those cars are not made any more.
Due to the many cars replacements, the '01' on the General Lee looked slightly different each episode.
Showing the intelligence of its audience, most of its fan mail was addressed to the General Lee.
Schneider and Wopat were replaced by 'replacement Dukes' for one season due to contract disputes. This turned into a ratings disaster from which the show never recovered.
Waylon Jennings only appeared on-screen once, as himself.
It was yet another victim in the Hollywood trend of turning retro TV shows into bad movie remakes.
About 300 Dodge Chargers were destroyed in the course of the show.

Why Dukes of Hazzard might not be annoying:

It gave us Daisy Duke and her Daisy Duke shorts.
They had an 'Uncle Jesse,' years before 'Full House' thought of it.
It featured tons of car chases and jumps.
One car jump set a world record.
It resurrected the 'rural programming' that CBS purged in the early 1970's.
Ben Jones used his 'Cooter' stint to become a two-term congressman.
One of its directors, Jack Starrett, also worked on 'Starsky and Hutch' and 'Hill Street Blues.'
'Good Ol' Boys' hit #21 on the Billboard Charts and is one of the most recognizable theme songs.
It made Hazard, Kentucky, a popular tourist location.
