Why they might be annoying
They have had numerous lineup changes since forming, with only the two constant members remaining.
Drummer Frost is forbidden from entering the US due to his criminal record.
Black metal purists hate the more 'radio-friendly' direction their later albums have taken.
Fans were unhappy about the bands decision to replace Frost with Slipknot's Joey Jordison for their 2004 North American tour.
Their 2004 tour was cut short after their touring guitarists were arrested for drugging and raping a woman in Toronto, Canada.
They wear the traditional black metal 'corpse paint' and spiked leather.
Why they might not be annoying
Their first three albums are classic black metal genre.
Although disliked by many fans, their later work contains elements of electronic, industrial, and more mainstream hard rock.
On their musical direction, they said: 'the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom and Bathory, reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented Black Metal is our philosophy.'
Their 2002 album 'Volcano' won a total of four awards, including the Norwegian Grammy for 'Best Metal Album,' an Alarm award for 'Song of the Year' for the song 'Fuel for Hatred,' an Alarm award for 'Metal Album of the Year' and the Oslo award for 'Best Overall Album.'
