Invented the Cherokee syllabary (alphabet), composed of 85 unique glyphs (1821)
Why he might be annoying
His birth date is listed anywhere from 1760 to 1776.
He smoked pipes.
He never learned how to speak English.
Despite creating an entire system of words, the only thing he was able to write was his own name.
He spent so much time on his alphabet that he rarely paid attention to his wife.
Nobody is sure where he is buried.
Why he might not be annoying
His father abandoned the family when Sequoyah was just a child.
He worked on his syllabary patiently for over 12 years.
His invention allowed the Cherokee to communicate easier with the white men.
The Sequoia tree is named after him.
He was the first person in history to create a written language on his own.
