Why he might be annoying
He started his career as a comedian.
He is divorced.
On 'Maude,' his character was named Henry but when it spun off to 'Good Times,' his name changed to James.
He gave a blistering interview to Ebony magazine in 1975 about he felt that the 'J.J.' character on 'Good Times' depicted blacks.
He left the show soon after that, but maintains that he was fired.
His character in 'Good Times' was one of the first comedy sit-com characters to be killed off.
It seems money was more of a factor in his departure.
Why he might not be annoying
He was Emmy nominated for the role of Kunta Kinte in 'Roots.'
He was one of the first actor to star as the father in a two-parent black TV family.
He played a pivotal character in one of the top mini-series of all-time.
