Why she might be annoying
She was married seven times.
She had a face-lift.
She smoked.
Her eyebrows were shaved off for the bit part of a harem girl early in her screen career. They never grew back.
Her longtime boyfriend, mobster Johnny Stompanato, was stabbed to death by her daughter Cheryl Crane in 1958, a tale that was retold in highly fictionalized form in Woody Allen's September (1987).
It was rumored she was highly amoral, according to a MGM executive, 'If she saw a stagehand with tight pants and a muscular build, she'd invite him into her dressing room.'
Although the true story is close, she was not discovered sipping a Coke at Schwab's Drug Store, but rather eating ice cream at an Ice Cream Parlor.
Why she might not be annoying
She died of throat cancer.
She was Americas 'Sweater Girl' and a WW II pin-up.
She once said: 'I find men terribly exciting, and any girl who says she doesn't is an anemic old maid, a streetwalker, or a saint.'
Billy Wilkerson of The Hollywood Reporter found her eating ice cream at Currie's Ice Cream Parlor and was so taken by her he blurted out that standard Hollywood line, 'How'd you like to be in pictures?' Her first role, sure enough, had her in a tight skirt and even tighter sweater sitting at a drugstore counter.
She ranked #25 in Playboy's Sex Stars of the Century.
