Why Monsters might be annoying
Deliberately campy, it occasionally overdid it.
All rural characters had really badly overdone southern accents.
The writers were usually professional TV writers and rarely established sci-fi/horror/fantasy writers.
The makeup and special effects were amateurish.
It never did as well ratings wise as its competition, 'Tales from the Darkside' or 'Tales from the Crypt' or inspire movies like they did, and is simply not as remembered as well as they are.
Why Monsters might not be annoying
It had an original 'look' and 'feel.'
The opening credits were a hoot.
It didn't take itself too seriously.
It was a good place to catch up and coming talent like Christian Slater as guest stars and occasionally featured stunt casting like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as a genie.
In tone, it was a perfect fit between the occasionally over-dramatic 'Tales from the Darkside' and the occasionally silly 'Tales from the Crypt' TV shows.
