Why he might be annoying:

He married four times.
His singing scenes in 'A Night at the Opera' are usually considered the worst parts of the movie.
Most of his films were forgettable B-grade musicals.
He didn't get along with Louis B. Mayer, resulting in him leaving MGM.
He smoked, which led to his death of lung cancer.
Years after his death, his son recorded a song with him by singing alongside his taped voice.

He dodged working in his home town's coal mine by earning scholarships.
He studied music in Paris and New York.
His singing diction was perfect.
He was appearing on Broadway when he was noticed by a Hollywood talent scout.
He continued to sing up until his early 80s.
