DuBois' protests were often violent.
At 93 years old, he joined the communist party (1961).
At 95, he renounced his U.S. citizenship and moved to Ghana, then died weeks later (1963).

He is the first African-American to received a PhD from Harvard.
He believed racial equality should not be gradual but immediate.
