Why he might be annoying
He was a zealous communist.
His security apparatus was vicious in its suppression of the opposition during the Russian Civil War and afterwards.
He was born into a rich family but joined a party that discriminated against the upper class.
The full English name of the Cheka was 'All Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counter-revolution and Sabotage.'
His last name is hard to pronounce.
Why he might not be annoying
He was honest and incorruptible.
There were six towns, numerous institutions and locations, named after him.
It is often said that he was not ambitious.
His statue was toppled by a crowd of people after the fall of the Soviet Union (1991).
