    Overthrown by Young Turk revolution

Why he might be annoying:

    Many Turkish conservatives viewed him as a dangerous reformer.
    He wrote poetry.
    He was married over seven times.
    He did nothing to prevent the Hamidian massacres.
    The Armenian genocide took place after his fall from the throne.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He survived an assassination attempt.
    He was a talented craftsman.
    He was a fan of Sherlock Holmes.
    He was a lover of the arts and translated many foreign operas into Turkish.
    Although he did not stop the Hamidian massacres he never directly ordered them.
