Vocalists

The Resume

    (1956-2004)
Original members: Margie Hendrix, Della Bea Robinson, Mary Ann Fisher and Darlene McRae
    Backing singers for Ray Charles
Recorded the singles 'I've Been Gettin Along Alright,' 'Bad Water,' 'One Hurt Deserves Another' and 'I Want To (Do Everything For You)'

Why she might be annoying:

None of their records without Ray were significant hits.
Ray treated them like a harem, marrying Robinson and fathering a child out of wedlock with Hendrix.
Hendrix became addicted to heroin and died of an overdose at age 31.

Why she might not be annoying:

Before teaming with Ray, they provided backing vocals for Atlantic recording artists such as Ruth Brown, LaVern Baker and Big Joe Turner.
Their call-and-response vocals with Ray on songs like '(Night Time Is) The Right Time' and 'What'd I Say' are powerfully erotic.
Later members of the group included Minnie Riperton, Edna Wright of the Honey Cone and Merry Clayton (the female singer on the Rolling Stones' 'Gimme Shelter').
