Why Peru might be annoying:

    During the early '70s, it surpassed Japan as the leading fishing country, but because of the over fishing, that did not last long.
    Some mummies found in Peru, were proved to have suffered from tuberculosis.
    There is a bridge there called the Bridge of Boils, because many of the workers died from plague.

    A soccer riot at Lima's soccer stadium killed 300 (May 24, 1964).
    Peruvian and Argentine soccer fans fought in Lima; 248 killed (May 25, 1966).
    Government seized all U.S. oil fields in Peru (October 9, 1968) and nationalized them (August 24, 1969).
    A military coup under general Velasco Alvarado overthrew President Fernando Bela£nde Terry (October 1968).
    The people fought a border dispute with Ecuador (January 9, 1995).

    A border dispute between Peru and Chile was finally resolved (June 3, 1929).
    Peruvian agent Rivera-Schreiber warned the US of a Japanese assault on Pearl Harbor, almost a year before it happened (January 27, 1941).
    Thor Heyerdahl on his 'Kon-Tiki' sailed from Peru to Polynesia (April 28, 1947).
    Javier Perez de Cuellar of Peru was selected secretary-general of UN (1981).
