Why he might be annoying:

He played a cowboy in almost all of his movies.
He mainly played bit parts in movies, sometimes uncredited.
He made appearences in many bad western movies from the 1950's.
He showed up on the set of 'Dr. Strangelove' wearing cowboy attire and speaking in a thick southern accent, prompting many to believe he was method acting.
He turned down a role in Stanley Kubrick's 'The Shining,' stating he didn't want to go through the multiple takes associated with Stanley Kubrick's perfectionist style.
He picked a colloquial expression as his stage name.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum (1982).
While filming 'Dr. Strangelove,' he was never told by Stanley Kubrick he was doing a black comedy, and played his role seriously.
His character in 'Dr. Strangelove' has one of the most memorable deaths in cinema history.
