    Formed in San Diego, California
    Scott Weiland (Vocalist, October 27, 1967- )
    Dean DeLeo (Guitarist, August 23, 1961- )
    Robert DeLeo (Bassist, February 2, 1966- )
    Eric Ketz (Drummer, June 7, 1966- )
Recorded 'Sex Type Thing,' 'Plush,' 'Creep,' 'Wicked Garden,' 'Interstate Love Song,' 'Vasoline,' 'Big Empty,' 'Big Bang Baby,' 'Trippin on a Hole in a Paper Heart,' 'Lady Picture Show,' 'Down,' 'Sour Girl,' 'No Way Out' and 'Days of the Week'
They were originally called 'Mighty Joe Young' until they were told that there was a Chicago blues artist with the same name.
They got their name from wanting something with the same initials as the motor oil company (STP).
In their early days, they were considered to be Pearl Jam ripoffs.
They received criticism over the fact that 'Sex Type Thing' supposedly endorsed rape. In their defense, they said it was supposed to show how wrong it is by showing the point of view of someone who didn't know right from wrong.
Scott has been arrested and jailed on several occasions for drug possession and has been in rehab.
Scott's drug problems prevented them from immediately touring in support of the albums 'Tiny Music...Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop' and 'No. 4.'
They kicked Scott Weiland out of the band and changed their name to Talkshow, but when that didn't work out, they got Weiland back and instantly churned out hits.
They were signed to a record deal on April Fool's Day.
Their influences include Kiss, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith.
They once performed in full Kiss makeup.
They did covers of Led Zeppelins' 'Dancing Days,' The Doors' 'Break on Through,' and The Beatles' 'Revolution.'
'Big Empty' helped the soundtrack to 'The Crow' reach number one on the Billboard Album Charts.
    Dean and Robert are brothers.
They are known in recent years for putting on highly energetic live shows.
They lasted longer than most other bands of their era.
