His tenure as Hawks head coach lasted 75 games.

He unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the European Union.
He enjoys drama theater.

He became the first Finnish-born NHL head coach in the NHL and the first European born head coach in 50 years (2000).
Unlike Ivan Hlinka in Pittsburgh, he was willing to learn English when he began coaching in North America.
He coached the Finnish national team on numerous occasions.
He directed and produced many plays in his native Finland.
He was a career assistant before getting the chance to be a head coach in Chicago.
