He needed to comb his hair.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was married almost fifty years!
He inspired a great deal of loyalty in his co-workers.
In five guest appearances on Gunsmoke, he played five different roles.
He was a very capable character actor.
He directed, acted, wrote and produced.
He made great contributions to the careers of actors as diverse as David Duchovny, Jacqueline Lovell and Audie England.
The critics ignored him completely.
