He was overused by Bud.
Although Bud tried to turn Spuds into the quintessential male, the dog portraying Spud was a female. Bud tried to cover this fact by hiding Spud's genitalia.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving protested Spuds appeal to young people and youth drinking.
Why he might not be annoying
He was usually surrounded by beautiful women.
Anheuser-Busch dropped the Spuds McKenzie campaign because it might promote underage drinking (1989).
He was part of Club Spud, which offered giveaways including T-Shirts.
