    He was extremely controversial for his time.
    He spoke of 'niggeros, blackamoors and coons.'
    He was anti-semitic in much of his writing.
    He had some conflicting opinions.
    He went by his initials, H. L.
    He was one of the most influential figures of the 1920s.
    He spoke his mind.
    He might have used racist and anti-semitic terminology, but he had many Jewish and African-American friends.
    He spent a great deal of time and effort to help Jews escape from Germany in World War II.
    Today, he still is one of the most respected authors of the 20th century.
