Why he might be annoying:

His middle name is… Linwood.
He released at least one album a year between 1962 and 1982, most for the Dot label.
His tendency to be tardy for Texas Wildcats events did not go over well with leader Jimmy Dean (‘you’re the most talented person I’ve ever fired’).
He was a pitchman for Hunt’s ketchup.

Why he might not be annoying:

He won two national banjo championships by the time he was 18.
During the 1970s, he would frequently host the Tonight Show in Johnny Carson’s absence.
A recurring Hee Haw feature was the Empty Arms Hotel, where he played one of the clerks.
He had a canny and uncanny knack for punchlines, often punctuated by his banjo.
His (since-sold) Roy Clark Celebrity Theater in Branson, Missouri was the first venue for many celebrities who relocated to the area.
The Heritage Guitar company, for whom he is a pitchman, has created a model guitar in his honor.
He can always find the time to go fishing, ride his motorcycles, fly some planes, and manage his own record label.
