The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

SB Nation described the on-field play as ‘much worse than most of major college football.’
Ebersol originally wanted to relaunch the XFL, but was unable to buy the trademark rights from Vince McMahon (probably because McMahon was planning his own XFL revival for 2020).
It came close to folding before the first game was played when one of the original investors pulled out.
They had to be bailed out by Carolina Hurricanes owner Tom Dundon, who invested $70 million and received a majority stake (February 18, 2019).
Pollian and Dundon attempted to negotiate a deal for the NFL to loan out third-string quarterbacks and other practice squad players to the AAF to gain playing time, making the AAF a developmental league for the NFL.
When the deal fell through, Dundon ordered league operations suspended, with two weeks of play left in the season (April 2, 2019).
Players at away games when the season was suspended were kicked out of their hotel rooms – with some being personally charged for unpaid bills – and had to pay their own way home.
Players received no severance pay and lost their health insurance, leaving them to cover any medical bills from injuries sustained during play.

Why he might not be annoying:

They gained credibility by signing former NFL players to executive positions, such as Troy Polamalu as Head of Player Relations and Hines Ward as Head of Football Development.
It made several changes (including a 35-second play clock, and no television timeouts) to cut the length of an average game to two and a half hours (compared to three hours for an average NFL game).
Player contracts included bonuses for fan interaction as well as on-field performance.
Televised games got decent ratings, at the same level as college basketball or the NHL.
Ticket prices were low, with each team having a $35 per game sideline seating option.
