Why he might be annoying
His full name was Maximillian Adolph Otto Siegfried Schmeling.
He won his first world title on a disqualification when his opponent, Jack Sharkey, hit him with an illegal low punch (1930).
He lost his heavyweight title the following year when Sharkey defeated him in a rematch (1931).
Because of his German heritage, he was dubbed the 'Nazi Warrior.'
He was endorsed by Adolf Hitler in his second match against Joe Louis (1938).
In the big match, Louis was able to defeat him in one round.
If he bought a salt company would it be called Schmeling Salt?
Why he might not be annoying
He co-owned the Coca-Cola branch in Germany.
He beat Joe Louis, who at the time was undefeated (1936).
During the Kristallnacht riots against Jews, he secretly hid two Jewish boys from the SS (1938).
He was unfairly dubbed a Nazi, considering he actually despised Hitler and Nazism.
He was drafted into the German Army, and since he never joined the Nazi Party, Hitler often sent him on suicidal missions to try and do away with him.
Despite being former rivals, he became good friends with Joe Louis.
