    She was arrested for allegedly stealing an Olympic flag at the Japanese Imperial Palace.
    She did say she was involved in taking the flag, but it was a prank and she was not the person who actually took the flag.
    Because of the incident she was banned by the Australian Swimming Union for ten years.
    She and her mother were involved in a car crash in which her mom died (1964).
    She enjoyed partying hard.
    She was selected #21 by Sports Illustrated for Women's Century's Greatest Sportswomen.
    She has been dubbed the 'Greatest freestyle sprinter in history.'
    She suggested that Olympians swim nude, so they might have faster times.

    She proudly told Sports Illustrated: 'When I look at my gold medals I can say that I won them honestly and nobody can take that away from me. In those days it was pure honesty. We were true amateurs. There was no money and no gifts.'
