There has been great confusion of what year he was actually born (said between 1917 - 1923).
Growing up, only religious music was allowed to be played with his family.
He worked as a janitor in a Detroit steel mill.
He's been known to stutter.
He appeared in a commercial for Pepsi.
He died the same day as Carroll O' Connor.

After recording 'Boogie Chillen,' he quit his job as a janitor and became a full time blues artist.
He was inducted into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame (1991).
His career spanned 6 decades.
He has a signature 'growl' voice.
He appeared in the smash hit movie Blues Brothers (1980).
He inspired generations of musicians.
