Outlaw

The Resume

    (January 27, 1931-November 28, 1994)
Born in Lambeth, London, United Kingdom
Birth name was Ronald Christopher Edwards
Participated in the Great Train Robbery (August 8, 1963)
Evaded arrest and fled to Mexico
Returned to England and served nine years in prison (1966-75)
After his release, ran a flower stall outside Waterloo Station in London
Died by hanging in a garage
Inquest returned an open verdict on the grounds that he had been too intoxicated to form a suicidal intent

Why he might be annoying:

After leaving school, he worked in a sausage factory, where he stole meat to sell on the black market.
While performing his National Service in the RAF, he was detained for stealing cigarettes.
He later claimed to have been responsible during the Great Train Robbery for hitting driver Jack Mills over the head, an injury Mills never fully recovered from.
While running his flower stall he said, 'I know I'm lucky to have got a chance to have this stall and be my own boss, but it's so dreary compared with the life I used to lead.'
He had attempted suicide twice before his death.
At the time of his death, he was being investigated as part of a police inquiry into a large-scale fraud.
Phil Collins made a bid to be taken seriously as an actor by portraying him in the film 'Buster.' (1988)

Why he might not be annoying:

He had been an amateur boxer.
He returned from Mexico to face a jail sentence after his family became homesick for England.
In the interview where he claimed to have clubbed Jack Mills, he also made the unlikely claim that the robbery was led by German commando Otto Skorzeny, so the whole thing should be taken with several grains of salt.
He became a victim of theft himself, when actor Dexter Fletcher grabbed two bunches of flowers worth £5 from his stall and ran off (1991).
