Why they might be annoying:

They had to postpone their 'Prolonging the Magic' tour, after John broke his finger while moving furniture in his apartment.
The name, 'Cake,' came about because John liked the sound of two k's in one word and they use it like a verb.
John usually sounds like he's talking (instead of singing) over the music.

Why they might not be annoying:

Artists they've been compared to include Nada Surf, Beck, Fastball, Eels and The Presidents of the United States of America.
They're influenced by old country music, 70's rock and modern soul.
'Fashion Nugget' and 'Comfort Eagle' were huge hits on the album charts and they both reached platinum status.
Their 'Fashion Nugget' tour had to have some dates cancelled after John had health problems and was too exhausted to perform.
They mix alternative rock, country, funk, soul and indie, and although they are not a comedy band, they sometimes write songs with humorous lyrics.
Their song, 'Rock 'N' Roll Lifestyle' was used for an IKEA commercial.
They performed at a benefit concert in honor of the victims of the Columbine high school shootings.
