He was a shameless social climber who threw sex parties for his wealthy and powerful connections.
He was a voyeur whose home was equipped with two way mirrors.
At fifty he shared his flat with teenagers Christine Keeler and Mandy Rice-Davies, insisting he was only trying to ‘protect' them.
In fact he may have been acting as their pimp.
He might have been working with Ivanov to get sensitive information out of Profumo through Keeler.

He was a gifted artist who painted several politicians and members of the royal family.
Although sometimes described as a Soviet spy, he might actually have been working with British counterintelligence.
His arrest for living on immoral earnings may have been a ruse by the government to avoid scrutiny for its own security lapses.
He was dropped by most of his so-called friends when the Profumo scandal erupted.
He committed suicide on the final day of his trial before the verdict was read.
