Why they might be annoying
Its first president was Joseph O'Rourke, a defrocked ex-priest.
If they don't like what the Church teaches, why not leave it?
It presents itself as a grassroots organization but is actually a paid lobbying group with no actual members, just employees.
Most of its budget comes from non-Catholic sources including Playboy magazine, the Ford Foundation, and Planned Parenthood.
Its president from 1982 to 2007, Frances Kissling, called the Catholic Church an 'unjust institution' and kept a poster of Che Guevara in her office.
They pass out condoms at Catholic youth events, and at World Youth Day in Germany in 2005 they carried posters showing two men having sex.
They disagree with virtually everything the Catholic Church teaches about human sexuality about many other matters as well.
Its legitimacy as a Catholic organization has been rejected by the Catholic Church.
Why they might not be annoying
They are extraordinarily effective for such a small group with a relatively small budget.
They rightly gave the Catholic Church a hard time about its handling of the pedophilia scandal of the early 2000's.
They've campaigned for academic freedom at Catholic universities.
