Why Lima, Peru might be annoying:

    Much of the city was levelled by earthquakes in 1687, 1746 and 1940.
    During the War of the Pacific, the Chilean army occupied and looted the city (1881-83).
    A riot followed by a panic in Estadio Nacional resulted in 328 deaths, the worst disaster in soccer history (May 24, 1964).
    Shining Path terrorists launched a week of bomb attacks that killed 40 people and shut down much of the city (July, 1992).
    It gets little sunlight for a city near the equator due to persistent low-lying clouds caused by a persistently high relative humidity.
    It suffers heavy air pollution, with particulate concentrations at three times the maximum level recommended by the World Health Organization.

Why Lima, Peru might not be annoying:

    Its National University of San Marcos (founded May 12, 1551) is the oldest continually functioning university in the Americas.
    Its metro area is home to a third of the country's population.
    Its metro area produces over half of Peru's gross domestic product.
    Its stock exchange became the world's most profitable in 2006.
    Its historic center was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site (1988).
    It has been called the Gastronomic Capital of the Americas, with a mix of Spanish, Andean and Asian cuisines.
