She voted against a resolution recognizing the 'patriotism and courage' of US soldiers in Kosovo.
She was the only member of Congress to vote against the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Terrorists (AUMF) following 9/11.

She was a divorced mother on welfare when she enrolled in college.
She got Nelson Mandela removed from the US terrorist watch list (2008).
Following her vote against the AUMF, she and her family received so many death threats they needed round-the-clock protection from the Capitol Hill police.
