Why he might be annoying
He was a heavy smoker.
He began his show biz career as a stand-up comic, but failed.
He was best known for creating ‘Doctor Who’s’ Daleks (psychotic robot trash cans that shriek ‘EXTERMINATE!’ in irritating voices).
He often implied that he created ‘Doctor Who,’ which is untrue.
He made the BBC pay him exorbitant fees to use the characters he created for them years before.
He tried to turn the Daleks into an American TV show, but nobody wanted it.
Some ‘Doctor Who’ fans consider him a terrible writer.
He described himself as ‘a hack.’
Why he might not be annoying
He was known for his professionalism.
He wrote comedy scripts for Peter Sellers and Spike Milligan on ‘The Goon Show.’
In the 1960’s, his Daleks became so popular in Britain that it was called ‘Dalekmania.’
The Daleks were sometimes mocked on ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000.’
He created the cult series ‘Blakes 7’ and wrote for ‘The Avengers.’
He scripted several episodes of ‘MacGyver.’
He wrote children’s books.
