Football Player
    (November 1, 1947- )
    Born in Guatemala City, Guatemala
Played for the Baltimore Colts (1969-1973), the Green Bay Packers (1974), and the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders (1975-1983)
    # 83
Remembered for his six foot seven inch height and long arms which he used effectively to bat down/intercept passes and block kicks
Physics major at the University of Miami where he was a two time All-American and placed fifth in Heisman Trophy voting in 1968, made 327 career solo tackles which is still a record for a Miami defensive lineman and once scored 4 sacks in one game against the University of Florida

Named to the NFL's 75th Anniversary team

    Second Team All Pro in 1972, 73, 76, 77, and 1978
Nicknamed 'The Mad Stork' or simply 'The Stork'
He was a heavy partier during his playing days.
After turning in one of the best years of his career, the Packers released him after only one year of play.
Raiders coaches almost released him twice with only Al Davis vetoes saving his career.
What kind of nickname is'The Mad Stork?'
He established a little known award for a college football player showing leadership potential and modestly named it after himself.
He didn't start lifting weights until late in his career and only because he said he didn't want to look so bad when he went to the beach.
He is without question one of the greatest linebackers in the history of the NFL.
His presence on a defense improved it's play far, far beyond his individual physical contribution.
He is believed to be the only NFL player (as of 2011) to have at least 25 kicks; field goals/PATS/punts blocked and at least 25 pass interceptions.
He used his height, long arms, and jumping ability to disrupt opposing quarterbacks passing to a degree unequaled in NFL history.
In addition to his physical skills, he played a very intelligent and highly developed instinctual game to great effect.
He is in three Hall of Fames; Florida high school, College, and NFL.
Despite his reputation as a partier; he kept himself out of legal trouble, stayed in shape, and conducted himself as a professional on the field.
