Splinter group of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)
Took its name from September 16, 1970 expulsion of Palestinian refugees and militants from Jordan when King Hussein declared military rule
Best remembered for the Summer Olympics Massacre in Munich, Germany

Why Black September might be annoying:

The assassinated Jordan's Prime Minister, Wasfi Tel (November 28, 1971).
They sabotaged a West German electrical installation (February 1972).
They hijacked a Belgian airplane (May 1972).
Though 5 of the 8 terrorists involved in the Munich Massacre were killed, the remaining 3 were captured alive (2 by feigning death).
A German cop was also killed during the botched rescue attempt.
On October 29, 1972, the group hijacked a German jet, demanding the release of their 3 imprisoned comrades.
Germany gave in to the demands.
They attacked the Saudi Embassy in Kharthom, killing American ambassador Cleo Noel, an American diplomat, and a Belgian diplomat (March 1, 1973).

Why Black September might not be annoying:

They did not succeed in the cancellation of the games.
The IOC (International Olympic Committee) consulted the Israeli government, and after a one day period of mourning, the games went on to conclusion.
Shortly after the embassy killings, the PLO dissolved the group, believing overseas terrorist acts (external operations) hurt their Palestinian cause in the eyes of the public.
Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir gave orders for the Mossad (Israeli intelligence agency) to eliminate all remaining group members.
They succeeded in assassinating almost all of them, including the 3 let go by the German government.
