He is typecast as a sweet (but dumb) jock.
He doesn't have much acting training, and viewers can tell.

In third grade, he got into trouble with three others. He blamed the others and because he was a good student he was the only one not suspended.
Why he might not be annoying
He was a good high school athlete and all-around student.
He looks a lot like Keanu Reeves.
He was rated one of the 'Hottest Stars Under 25' by Teen People Magazine (2000).
He did not intend to start acting until he was discovered in his hometown by a filmmaker and was almost immediately cast in 'Election.'
