    Reported on the scene, when Germans occupied Austria and Czechoslovakia (1938-39)
    A main U.S. correspondent during the Battle of Britain in WW II (1940-41)
    He was a chain smoker, who died at 57 of brain cancer.
    He sent out a form postcard to all critics stating: 'Dear Sir or Madam: You may be right.'
    He was among the first TV journalists to speak out against Joe McCarthy during the McCarthy communist hunts of the '50s.
    Murrow was the most trusted news commentator of the '50s.
    His outstanding quality was that the audience felt as though he was talking to them individually.
    He was left handed.
    The Edward R. Murrow Award is named in his honor.
