Corporation

The Resume

    (August 3, 1972- )
    Privately held company
    Headquartered in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
    822 stores (as of 2018)
    32,000 employees (as of 2018)
Formerly called Hobby Lobby Creative Centers
Stores sell home decor and arts/crafts supplies

Why Hobby Lobby might be annoying:

They are one of the few corporations to still refrain from the use of barcodes.
Like Chick-fil-A, they force their religious beliefs onto employees.
They were criticized for not having non-Christian holiday items in stock at some franchises.
Company leadership took a public stance against President Obama's Affordable Care Act, because of its inclusion of a provision mandating that companies include the 'morning-after pill' in their health coverage.
They filed a lawsuit against the United States over the new regulations, arguing that the First Amendment bars the application of the contraceptive mandate to them (Sept. 2012).
Employees were caught organizing an attempted archaeological looting in the Middle East to present smuggled artifacts to the Museum of the Bible. District courts in New York fined them and ordered them to return the items (2018).

Why Hobby Lobby might not be annoying:

Its name has a cute rhyme scheme to it.
They choose to take the financial hit from being closed every Sunday.
It is the largest privately owned arts-and-crafts retailer in the world.
David Green and his wife started the company making miniature picture frames out of their home (on a $600 loan).
Employees have been known to positively review the corporate culture on a majority basis in exit interviews.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in their favor; ruling that they and other 'closely held' stock corporations can choose to be exempt from the law based on religious preference (2014).
