Why she might be annoying
It is unclear if CC stands for ‘Carbon Copy’ or ‘Copy Cat.’
Although a clone, she is not identical to her biological mother.
None of the other 86 embryos created by this project survived to full term.
Genetic Saving and Clone was solely interested in cloning pets for profit.
The Humane Society denounced pet cloning as frivolous and wasteful, noting ‘There are millions of cats and dogs in shelters.’
The original aim of the project was to clone a dog rather than a cat.
Why she might not be annoying
She has a frisky, outgoing personality.
She has none of the health problems common with cloned animals.
The technology used to clone her may also help preserve endangered species and advance medical research.
Once confined to a sterile lab, she now lives with a scientist involved with the project.
She gave birth to three healthy, normally conceived kittens (September 2006).
The team that created her stressed that ‘cloning is reproduction, not resurrection.’
