Nickname was The Railway Killer (most victims bodies either found along railroad tracks or in their homes located near tracks)
Convicted of murdering nine people between 1997 and 1999 in Texas, Illinois and Kentucky; confessed to three other murders in Texas and Florida
Victims ranged from 16 to 81-years-old
Executed via lethal injection by the state of Texas at age 46
Why he might be annoying
He was an illegal alien who drifted between the U.S. and Mexico by hopping freight trains.
He used more than 30 aliases to cover his tracks.
He murdered so he could steal money for drugs and alcohol.
He raped some of his female victims after they were dead.
Most victims were bludgeoned or stabbed to death with items he found on premises; a sledgehammer, a bronze statue, rocks, a pick ax and garden shears.
Some victim's faces were obliterated from the savageness of their beatings.
He believed he was half-man, half-angel, telling psychiatrists, 'I don't believe in death. I know the body is going to go to waste. But me, as a person, I'm eternal. I'm going to be alive forever.'
Defense lawyers unsuccessfully tried to halt his execution on the grounds he was mentally unfit.
Why he might not be annoying
With the help of his sister and a spiritual advisor, he surrendered to U.S. authorities on the Texas/Mexico border.
A confession he made helped solve a cold case murder from 1991 in San Antonio.
He expressed remorse to some victim's relatives witnessing his execution, stating, 'I want to ask if it is in your heart to forgive me. You don't have to. I know I allowed the devil to rule my life. I thank God for having patience for me. I don't deserve to cause you pain. You did not deserve this. I deserve what I am getting.'
