The Resume

    (December 19, 1942-January 2, 2019)
    Birth name is Gene Carroll
Commentated and ring announced for the WWE
Commentated for WCW, AWA and the NWA
    Host of WWE Confidential
    Known as 'Mean Gene'

Why he might be annoying:

He was one of the many talents that Vince McMahon signed away from the AWA that led to the sad, slow death of the promotion.
He was later one of the many talents to leave the WWF for WCW only to return to the WWE, saying he's 'back where he belongs.'
He was known for making outlandish and racial remarks, including a racial remark during the vignette where the One Man Gang turned into Akeem with a very African setting around them where Gene said: 'This reminds me to renew my subscription to national geographic.'
During Summer Slam 1989, Gene, not knowing he was being filmed, was smoking a cigarette while the 'Summer Slam' sign fell down. He cursed on the air during a time where the WWF was billed as 'family entertainment' and while the company sponsored anti-smoking ads.
He did a stint with Hulk Hogan in the mid-80's where they teamed up to take on George Steele and Mr. Fuji. The match was pretty bad and the 'training sessions' that took place between them were noted for being kind of homoerotic.
He cracked his ribs while dancing with the Gobbledy Gooker at the 1990 Survivor Series.
In WCW, he had a feud with Mark Madden that is called by many to be one of the worst feuds of all-time.
He was arrested for drunk driving in 2000.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the voice of the WWF for most of the 80's.
He's been involved in wrestling for over 30 years.
No matter who it was that he was doing an interview with, he always delivered great promos with wrestlers and always made them look good.
He had great chemistry with Bobby Heenan and their bits together were hilarious.
When asked what the reason was for the feud with Mark Madden, he said: 'If you can tell me for a second what that would have possibly accomplished I would like to know. It was just some brain storm of Vince Russo, and the angle was a total piece of garbage. I did it because I wanted to be a team player, and let everybody amongst the ranks know that I was gonna be a team player and do what they asked me to do. I wasn't really in love with that angle.'
He sang mediocre but fun and memorable covers of 'Tutti Frutti' and 'Rock & Roll Hootchie Koo' on the WWF's two albums in the mid-80's.
He has a chain of restaurants called 'Mean Gene's Burgers' that has gone international and it's even been brought into military installations and colleges around the country.
He had kidney replacement surgery in October of 2004 and the kidney was supplied by his son.
