Why they might be annoying
Their goal in music was to 'destroy rock 'n' roll.'
Musically speaking, they weren't that talented.
Johnny often changed his last name between Rotten and Lydon.
To this day, mainstream media recognizes them more for their antics than their music.
Between 1978 and 1979, the band imploded.
During their US tour, Johnny Rotten quit while onstage in San Francisco and a year later Sid Vicious committed suicide in New York City.
Before killing himself, Sid was arrested for stabbing his girlfriend Nancy Spunge to death with a hunting knife.
A year after his death, 1,000 punks marched in honor of his memory. His mother was supposed to have taken part in the march but couldn't because she was in the hospital for a heroin overdose.
The remaining original members reunited in 1996 for a tour, upsetting many fans by having industrial rock band Stabbing Westward open for them.
Why they might not be annoying
Punk was never the same after they made their debut.
They created a massive outrage in England after their song 'God Save The Queen' was released, causing their music to be banned almost everywhere in the UK.
After the song was released, Johnny was slashed with a knife by offended royalists, resulting in permanent loss of feeling in his middle and index finger on his left hand. He then learned how to play guitar right-handed.
Johnny took part in many memorable MTV interviews which usually ended with him getting pissed, telling the MTV VJ to fuck off and then storming away.
Johnny said: 'The sheep who buy Korn and Limp Bizkit ... they're completely and utterly foolish.'
