Why San Francisco, California might be annoying
There are so many gay bars and clubs that it is difficult for heterosexuals to figure out where to go at night.
On the corner of Haight and Ashbury streets, many hippies have used lots of different kinds of drugs.
It is the home of the homeless.
It is built on many steep hills that for years made meaningful transportation nearly impossible.
It was the home to Alcatraz (1933-63).
The worlds most crooked street, Lombard, winds through a hilly stretch of the city.
Although San Jose is the largest city in the Bay Area in terms of population, the Bay Cities are still collectively thought of as the 'San Francisco Area.'
Their summers are often cooler than their winters.
It was struck by an earthquake on October 8, 1865.
Another earthquake struck on April 18, 1906, causing a massive four-day fire.
The Giants won five World Series when they were based in New York, but since moving to San Francisco, they've won none, and haven't won any World Series since 1954.
When the Giants were in the World Series against cross-bay rival Oakland in 1989 (the 'Bay Series'), yet another earthquake struck right before the start of Game 3, which was to have taken place in San Francisco (October 17, 1989).
In that earthquake, the Bay Bridge which connects San Francisco to Oakland collapsed, as did a section of Interstate 880 in Oakland, at that time a double-decker freeway where many unfortunate motorists on the lower deck were crushed.
The World Series game that was postponed that day would have been played in Candlestick Park, which was known as one of the windiest and coldest baseball stadiums in the country.
When the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, it was bragged about as being suicide-proof, yet it is the number one place in the world for suicides, with over a thousand documented cases since its opening.
Why San Francisco, California might not be annoying
It is one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan cities in the world.
The air there is the cleanest of any major city in the U.S.
Trolleys make getting up and down their many hillsides easier, and they make transportation very efficient.
It is the birthplace of sourdough bread.
TransAmerica Insurance is headquartered there, with its pyramid-like building in the city.
The NFL's 49ers have won five Super Bowls since 1981.
Pac Bell Park, the new home of the baseball Giants, is one of the best-looking ballparks in the major leagues.
The Sierra Club and ACLU were founded there.
Many famous musicians, such as Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, and The Grateful Dead, called it home.
It is the leading center for AIDS research.
