Why Indianapolis, Indiana might be annoying:

    Considering the city name consists of combining Indiana with the Greek word for 'city,' it probably didn't take a lot of effort to come up with that name.
    It got its nickname 'Naptown' due to its perceived sleepiness and dullness.
    When a plane lands at the Indianapolis airport, corn fields can be in view from the plane.
    It is the largest U.S. city that is not located near a navigable waterway.
    Baltimore natives are still mad at Indy after the Colts moved there in 1984.
    It is the namesake of the USS Indianapolis, a navy ship which was torpedoed during World War II and killed 883 sailors.
    Indianapolis teams have won zero NBA titles (though the Pacers have won three ABA titles).
    When it hosted the 2002 World Basketball Championships, attendance was very poor.
    Mike Tyson was arrested for rape and spent some prison time here.
    It is home to the minor league hockey team Indianapolis Ice, which used shameless promotions featuring Tonya Harding and Manute Bol.
    It sounds too close to Minneapolis.

    It was chosen as the capital of Indiana due to its central location in the state.
    Its design was based on the one used for Washington, D.C.
    It is the host of one of the nation's most popular state high school basketball tournaments.
    The last scene in the movie Hoosiers was shot at Hinkle Fieldhouse, which one time hosted the high school basketball finals.
    Indianapolis has hosted/will host the NCAA men's Final Four in 1980, 1991, 1997, 2000, 2006 and 2010, as well as the 2005 women's Final Four.
    Conseco Fieldhouse (home of the Pacers) is considered one of the NBA's nicest arenas.
    The Indianapolis 500 is the largest single-day sporting event in the world, as it holds close to 300,000 seats.
    It is home to the largest children's museum in the world.
    It's known as the 'Crossroads of America' since it is intersected by more segments of interstate and U.S. highways than any other metro area.
    David Letterman, an Indianapolis native, one time wanted the interstate that circles Indy called 'David Letterman Expressway.'
    Indianapolis has also been home to Benjamin Harrison, Steve McQueen, Oscar Robertson, and Jane Pauley.
    It was the home of Elvis Presley's last live performance (1977).
