    For many years, his career lived in the shadow of his friend and contemporary, Noel Coward.
    He smoked.
    He was a much better composer and singer than he was an actor.
    'Keep The Home Fires Burning' was the favorite inspirational song of WW I.
    He was witty, urbane and charming.
    The Ivor Novello Music Award is named in his honor.
    He served in the RAF during the war.
    He died of a massive heart attack at a young age.
