Why he might be annoying
His cartoon caricature of himself doesn't look like him.
He left MAD in 1957 with editor Harvey Kurtzman to help form two new magazines - 'Trump' and 'Humbug.'
Trump folded after two issues and Humbug after 11, but he was able to get his job back at MAD in 1958.
He was the creator of 'Debbie Deere' and 'Jason,' two short-lived comics he freelanced while with MAD.
His 'Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions' is a users' guide on how to properly insult people.
He stated he came up with 'Snappy Answers to Stupid Questions' while he was going through a divorce as a way to let out built-up aggression.
Why he might not be annoying
As a child he lived in Lithuania for six years, but the family moved back to the U.S. ahead of Nazi occupation.
His trademark 'MAD Fold-in' was supposed to be a one-time deal in 1964, but the editors liked it so much he's been doing them to the point of icon status.
He's done well over 400 fold-ins and does them by hand, using a computer only for lettering.
For his 85th birthday Stephen Colbert paid tribute to him on The Colbert Report with a fold-in birthday cake.
As of 2009 he is the king of MAD with over 50 years service.
He has won the praise of fellow MAD cartoonist Sergio Aragones and 'Far Side' creator Gary Larson.
The late Charles M. Schulz quoted 'Al Jaffee is one of the great cartoonists of our time.'
