Why she might be annoying:

She originally acted under the name Aileen Savage.
Both her marriages ended in divorce, with her marriage to author James M. Cain barely lasting past their second anniversary.
In a scene in ‘Three Weeks’ where Conrad Nagel carries her to their bedroom, lip readers could see her telling him, ‘If you drop me, you bastard, I’ll break your neck.’

Why she might not be annoying:

The press called her ‘the Darling of the Intelligentsia,’ based on her friendships with the likes of H.L. Mencken, George Gershwin and Carl Van Vechten.
Illustrator Ralph Barton used her as the model for Dorothy (Lorelei Lee’s best friend) in Anita Loos’ ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.’
Asked at age 90 for the secret of her longevity, she replied, ‘If you think it's because I behaved myself when I was young, you're dead wrong.’
