Why he might be annoying:

His fan-base is overwhelmingly in the tween/teenie bopper realm.
Several of his videos make light of sensitive subjects like rape, child abuse, and obesity.
He regularly stokes feuds with fellow YouTubers over petty issues to spike his viewership (earning him the title of 'YouTube's Perfect Villain').
He started - very discretely - dating his second wife when she was only 17 (he was 26 at the time).
He uploaded a video of himself ranting about how meat eaters are 'murderers' which he later removed after the fierce backlash (2009).
He was disinvited from the 2012 Vidcon over rape allegations that were never entirely disproven.
He inadvertently suffocated his pet tortoise to death by leaving it in a sealed plastic bin in the heat, and then tried to claim that the pet died from 'stress' (2012).
He came under fire tweeting inappropriate comments reacting to the murder of Christina Grimmie.
He was accused of staging a burglary in his home and then trying to pin the blame on his ex-wife.
He regularly airs his dirty laundry to his million-plus fan base (e.g. making his second wife's extremely shaky mental health issues the center of entire videos).
He went too far when he took to his website forum to encourage fans to send scantily clad pictures of themselves with the name 'Onision' written on their body so that he could 'rate them' as part of a 'Body Positivity' segment he was preparing.
He then acted shocked when outraged YouTubers accused him of child exploitation after he proceeded to post the images on his channel (with many of the half-naked girls as young as 13), and justifying it by asserting 'its not illegal.'

Why he might not be annoying:

His parents were divorced when he was two-years-old.
His father was convicted of committing a sexual crime against a minor.
At age 15, he was physically attacked by his father who nearly strangled him. He then did time in juvenile prison for retaliating in self-defense.
He struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts as a teenager and young adult.
He is extremely close with his mother, and she has appeared in several videos of his, including 'Ghosts Caught on Camera.'
He served in the US Air Force, before obtaining a discharge on pacifistic grounds.
He has enjoyed a burgeoning career as a novelist in the 'Young Adult' genre.
His first 'viral sensation' was him literally dancing and singing in a banana costume (which would turn out to be one of his less bizarre videos).
He was ranked #2 on Watch Mojo's Top Controversial YouTube Channels (2015).
His wild provocations on his channel have succeeded in making his unofficial 'doppelanger' Shane Dawson appear normal and pleasant by contrast.
Even his worst enemies have marveled at his ability to maximize profits by manipulating his audience (and those same YouTubers later admitted to having jumped to conclusions by maligning him as a pedophile).
