Radio Personality
    (December 9, 1902-March 1, 1965)
    Born in Mount Carmel, Illinois
Announcer for the 'Lone Ranger' radio show (1933-41)
Became the voice of the Lone Ranger after the death of original portrayer Earle Graser (1941-54)
His contract banned him from doing any radio acting outside of the Lone Ranger.
He turned down an offer to star in the Lone Ranger TV series.
At the time of his death, he was using his Lone Ranger voice for local radio commercials for auto dealers.
Because he was tall for his age, he was able to join the American Expeditionary Force in World War I when he was only 14.
He was the announcer for the first radio broadcast of the Indianapolis 500 (1922).
Even before taking over the role on radio, he was making publicity appearances as the Lone Ranger, because as a 6'3 athletic horseman he matched the audience's image of the character. (Unlike Earle Graser, who was short, paunchy and had no experience with horses.)
His name is an anagram for 'embrace beer.'
